GYPSUM COMBINATION (fire-draining/reducing formula)
Effects: clearing heat and engendering fluid; eliminating vexation to relieve thirst.
Indications: yang brightness meridian pattern/ syndrome and qi aspect heat, marked by high fever and flushed face, vexing thirst with desire for drink, profuse sweating, aversion to heat, large surging pulse or rapid slippery pulse, headache due to exuberant stomach fire, teeth pain, epistaxis; gum bleeding; insolation and fever of unknown causes.
Clinical Reference: This formula is often used in treating fever induced by common cold/influenza/measles/erysipelas/scarlet fever/intestinal heat/Japanese encephalitis; thirst; agitation; insolation; diabetes mellitus; manic-depressive psychosis with vexation thirst; eczema; insomnia due to skin itching; wind-dampness-heat; redness and swelling of multiple joints.
