Origin: Imperial Grace Formulary of the Tai Ping Era (Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang)
Effects: drying dampness to fortify the spleen; moving qi and resolving accumulation
Indications: damp stagnation in the spleen and stomach; distending pain in the heart and abdomen; loss of appetite; stomach reflux and belching ;nausea and vomiting; bitter taste in the mouth; shortness of breath; heaviness feeling of the body and limbs; lassitude and somnolence; vomiting and diarrhea due to cholera; white, slimy and thick fur; moderate pulse.
Clinical Reference: This formula is often used in treating acute/chronic gastritis, gastric atony, gastrectasis (dilatation of the stomach),gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, dyspepsia, chronic enteritis, and gastroenteric neurosis.
