Rehmannia Akebia Formula (fire-draining/reducing formula)
Effects: clearing heat and cooling the blood; draining water to relive strangury
Indications: exuberant heat in the heart meridian; red complexion with manic agitation; oral erosion and tongue sore; grinding of the teeth with thirst; heart-chest heat vexation; moving heat from the heart to the small intestine; short reddish inhibited voidings of urine; stabbing pain during duration
Clinical Reference: This formula is often used in treating acute cystitis; urethritis; reddish inhibited voidings of urine; pain during urination; mouth and tongue sore. For edema without alleviation, couple with Hoelen Five Herb Formula (Wu Ling San). For fetid mouth odor and tongue sore, couple with Sweet Combination (Gan Lu Yin). For heat strangury and uremia, couple with Gardenia & Hoelen Formula (Wu Ling San). For tinea pedis (athletes foot) and house-wife eczema, couple with Dandelion & Wild Chrysanthemum Combination (Wu Wei Xiao Du Yin)
